Hi-T500 mini dumper being loaded by a mini diggerFollowing close scrutiny of most makes of compact tracked carrier on the market, groundworks and demolition contractor RA Swann of Bishops Stortford recently took delivery of a TCP Hi-T500.

The 500 kg payload machine proved to be the only one to meet all of RA Swann’s specific requirements - these requirements being an ability to go wherever the company’s existing 700 mm wide micro digger can, a diesel engine to avoid the use of two fuel types and a high discharge mechanism.

The new dumper has already proved its worth on a site in Essex where it has been used to remove 160 tonne of broken concrete and 120 tonne of spoil from the basement area of a private house. Before moving to its next job the machine will also carry and place around 40 tonne of Type 1 roadstone prior to concrete pumping.

Commenting on the TCP carrier, Robert Swann said: “I am over the moon with the machine and have in fact now placed an order for a second unit to assist with the installation of conservatory bases.”

The Hi-T500 is powered by a reliable Kubota diesel engine developing 7.4 kW (10 HP) driving the rubber tracks via a fully hydrostatic two speed transmission. The machine exerts a ground pressure of only 0.35 kg/sq cm (5 lb/sq in) and the rugged skip is able to tip forward and over in an arc of almost 180 degrees to ensure complete discharge of even the stickiest materials.

Hi-T500 mini dumper emerging from doorwayA TCP Hi-T500 compact tracked dumper, on hire from the Rugby depot of Travis Perkins, has helped shift nearly 55 cu m of concrete as part of a major refurbishment contract currently underway at Coventry Speedway Stadium.

The up-grading of the facilities is being carried out by new owner Coventry Greyhound Club and will result in the addition of a greyhound track to complement the existing speedway and stockcar track.

Commenting on the dumper, site manager Alan Meridith said: “We have a variety of width and height restrictions around the stadium complex and have found the Hi-T500 ideal for the job, particularly as we can only cope with small quantities of material at a time and the machine’s 500 kg payload has proved just about perfect.”

Besides the new greyhound track, the 6 month contract will also result in a new 280 seat restaurant, bars and other facilities and the TCP unit is playing a major materials handling role, helping to ensure the whole project is completed on schedule.

Hi-T500 tracked dumper in actionA Hertfordshire based landscape contractor is saving time and, more importantly, his back by switching from a wheelbarrow to a diesel powered Hi-T500 tracked dumper.

DC Garden Services of Hemel Hempstead was established by Daniel Burfot in 1993 to specialise in private and domestic projects, with an increasing number of requests to undertake hard landscaping work.

It soon became apparent that the humble wheelbarrow was a slow and tedious method of material transportation and his micro excavator was spending far too much time standing idle.

However, having spotted TCP’s compact tracked dumper at a trade show. Mr. Burfot could immediately see the huge benefits its addition to his plant fleet would bring.

Besides being a perfect match for the digger, its overall width of just 700 mm enables it to reach any part of a garden with ease. Also, with a 500 kg carrying capacity, the Hi-T500 can now transport the equivalent of four barrow loads of material at a time and the high tip mechanism allows clean discharge directly into skips. As Mr. Burfot says: “In the past, to tip into skips with a wheelbarrow, we had to push each load up a plank which was both hard work and potentially hazardous.”

Hi-T500 tracked dumper being loaded by a mini diggerA Norfolk based ramp manufacturer has taken delivery of a HiT-500 compact tracked dumper as part of a new plant duo, enabling the company to carry out its own groundworks for a recently introduced modular ramp system.

Portaramp of Thetford is the largest company of its type in the UK and the new modular system has been developed to provide a cost-effective access solution for a wide variety of situations.

The HiT-500, supplied by Taylor Construction Plant of Maldon in Essex, has been partnered with an 850 kg micro excavator to provide a space and weight efficient dig and carry team.

Commenting on the acquisition, Portaramp’s managing director Keith Jones said: “Unfortunately, it was only after moving some 2 tonne of material by wheelbarrow at my own home that I discovered the existence of TCP’s amazing little dumper. It came extremely highly recommended by a builder friend of mine and I had no hesitation in placing an order”.

Besides its economical diesel engine and rugged build quality, the HiT-500 also has excellent across-site capability and its unique high-tip mechanism enables it to fully discharge loads directly into skips.

Four Hi-T500 tracked dumpers are a new addition to plant hirer fleetHampshire Plant Hire of Winchester has recently purchased a fleet of four compact tracked dumpers from Maldon based Taylor Construction Plant.

The Hi-T500 models have a maximum payload of 500 kg and are powered by electric start diesel engines developing 7.4 kW (10 hp), driving through 2-speed hydrostatic transmissions.

Popular with many plant and tool hire companies, the machines also feature a unique high tip mechanism enabling loads to be fully discharged into 1200 mm high skips.

Commenting on the addition of the Hi-T500’s to Hampshire Plant Hire’s plant holding, director Dave Meadham said: “We like to have a good variety of equipment in our fleet and we have experienced a marked increase in demand for compact equipment able to work on difficult access sites”.

Mr. Meadham added: “The TCP machine fits the bill perfectly and is ideally suited to operate alongside the micro excavators we also offer”.

Hi-T500 tracked dumperA TCP mini tracked dumper has solved a materials handling problem on a tight access site in Essex where a swimming pool is being refurbished.

Farmhouse owner Paul Huttey is quick to point out that without the HiT500 dumper, on hire from BTG of Ongar, he would have been faced with the task of moving several tonnes of rubble and earth the hard way - by wheelbarrow.

Because the pool complex is surrounded by walls, the only access to it is via a 900 mm wide gateway - too narrow for most machinery to negotiate. However, with an overall width of just 700 mm, the HiT500 has proved perfect for the project in combination with a micro excavator.

TCP’s machine, which now features in many hire fleets throughout the country, is powered as standard by an economical 7.1 kW (9.5 hp) Kubota diesel engine, has a maximum carrying capacity of 500 kg and a high tip mechanism to enable direct discharge into skips.

Hi-T500 tracked dumper tackling steep gradientsA TCP Hi-T500 compact tracked dumper on hire from BTG of Ongar is making light work of steep gradients on a river defence project in Essex.

Jackson Civil Engineering of Ipswich has a £1.1M contract from the Environment Agency to up-grade existing defences alongside the river Crouch at Hullbridge.

The work involves the installation of sheet pile walling and a clay embankment, plus a variety of accommodation works for which the TCP dumper is proving invaluable. The 500 kg payload machine is being used to transport a variety of materials on site and has surprised everyone with its ability to tackle the 1:2.5 embankment sides with ease, even when fully laden.

The diesel powered Hi-T500 is one of four in BTG’s fleet and has recently been up-dated by Taylor Construction Plant of Maldon to the latest 2-speed standard specification introduced last year.

Hi-T500 tracked dumperA TCP Hi-T500 compact tracked dumper on hire from Sibbons of Colchester has solved a difficult stone handling problem for Thames & Colne River Aggregates at its large site alongside the river Colne near Fingringhoe in Essex.

The company, which extracts sand and gravel at a rate of some 180,000 tonne per year for shipment to London via barges, is currently undertaking the second stage of a major land restoration project. Installation of main drains has already been carried out and now spur drains are being added to further improve the area to enable it to be used for grazing.

Because of recent weather, the land is very wet and the company did not want to cause any unnecessary damage by using wheeled machines. The 500 kg capacity Hi-T500 has therefore been hired in by contractor D. Pittock to transport and tip a total of some 60 tonne of stone into prepared slit trenches.

Despite the very sticky ground conditions, the dumper has proved ideal for the job - a job that otherwise would have had to be undertaken using wheelbarrows running on lengths of old conveyor belting.

Manufactured by Taylor Construction Plant at its Maldon factory, the robustly constructed Hi-T500 has an unladen weight of 448 kg and is powered by an electric start Kubota diesel developing 7.4 kW (10 hp). Despite its diminutive size, the machine exerts a track ground pressure of just 0.351 kg/cm 2 (4.99 psi).
